"The Listener" is a Powerful New Audio Walking Tour available at this summer’s Merchant City Festival 2025 in Glasgow

We are proud to announce the launch of “The Listener” at the Merchant City Festival this summer, a specially commissioned audio guide that explores Glasgow's historical ties to the transatlantic slave trade. The guide, produced by theAfrowegian, is available exclusively on the Trailify app starting Friday 18th to Sunday 20th July.

You can download the app and guide now on Trailify.

This collaboration showcases the power and flexibility of the Trailify platform, which enables event organisers and cultural institutions to deploy rich, location-aware digital experiences without the cost and complexity of building a custom application.

"The Listener" is a thought provoking walking tour that takes participants on a journey through Glasgow's merchant city centre. With audio clips across significant locations, the guide reveals the often overlooked history connecting the city’s wealth and architecture to colonial exploitation. Visitors can start the immersive experience by simply scanning a QR code, or using a single link supplied via the festival website, or social media.

How Trailify Powers "The Listener"

For an event like a city festival, Trailify provides a turnkey solution for modern visitor engagement:

  • Instant Access via QR Code: Visitors scan a code, or use a single link, and are taken directly to the Trailify app download. Once opened, "The Listener" guide loads automatically, creating a frictionless user experience.

  • Fast, Affordable Deployment: The guide was created and deployed on the Trailify platform in a fraction of the time and cost required for a standalone app, demonstrating a new, agile model for digital content delivery at festivals.

  • A Rich, Immersive Experience: Trailify supports high-quality audio, images, and text, all linked to a user's location on an interactive map, allowing for a deeply engaging and self-guided tour.

  • Offline Functionality: Once the guide is loaded, it is saved to the user's device, ensuring a seamless experience even in areas with poor network coverage.

"We are so pleased to have our app featured at such a prestigious event as the Merchant City Festival. 'The Listener' is a powerful, important piece of storytelling, and it perfectly represents our mission: to provide a platform that makes vital local histories accessible to a wider audience. We’ve removed the technical barriers so that creators like theAfrowegian and organisers like the festival can focus on what they do best: creating unforgettable cultural experiences."

The Trailify platform is now available for visitor attractions, heritage sites, active travel initiatives, and festivals looking to create their own digital guides.
